Crystal Cove State Park Trail Work Day

December 12, 2009

What: Restoration planting on the old Ticketron trail in Crystal Cove State Park. Continue work on the new Ticketron trail improving the switchbacks and compacting the trail surface.

When: December 12, 2009

Time: 8 am to 1 pm

Where: Meet at the cul-de-sac at the end of Ridge Park Road in Newport Beach (directions and map attached).

Who: Please RSVP to Winter Bonnin at Crystal Cove State Park – wbonnin@parks.ca.gov or Lyndie Bradshaw at REI Huntington Beach – lbradsh@rei.com

Why: In October, the new Ticketron trail was built to reestablishment a sustainable single track trail for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians by grade reduction, lengthening, and restoration. This event will focus on planting over 500 native plants in the old Ticketron trail grade to restore the habitat. We will also be continuing the work on the new Ticketron trail by improving the switchbacks and compacting the trail surface.

Event: Lunch served to participants at noon. Recommend sturdy boots or running shoes, long shirts and pants, Hat, and Water. For planting, please bring small gardening tools such as a trowel. Bring a willingness to enjoy nature and get a little dirty planting, watering, and working on building a new trail in Crystal Cove State Park. Again, this month?s events will focus on restoring over ? acres of Coastal Sage Scrub environment. The Hike or ride bike to event is 1.2 miles. This is a great way to enjoy nature and earn community service hours. We look forward to seeing you.
