Crystal Cove State Park Trail Work

Crystal Cove State Park Trail Work Day
                              October 24, 2009

What:  Restoration and realignment of the Ticketron trail in Crystal
  Cove State Park

  When:  October 24, 2009

Time:  8 am to 1 pm

Where: Meet at the cul-de-sac at the end of Ridge Park Road in Newport
  Beach (directions and map attached).

Who:   Please Contact Winter Bonnin at Crystal Cove State Park -
wbonnin@parks.ca.gov or Lyndie Bradshaw at REI Huntington Beach -
  lbradsh@rei.com

Why:   The Ticketron trail, a steep trail of over 30% slope, has greatly
widened over time. The project will reestablishment single track trail
for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians by grade reduction,
lengthening, and restoration. This will result in a safer and more
sustainable less steep alignment minimizing the “take” of sensitive
coastal sage scrub habitat and improves public safety compared to
existing conditions. Project will restore sensitive roughly 1/3 acre of
coastal sage scrub habitat on the old trail.

Event: Lunch served to participants at noon. Recommend sturdy boots or
running shoes, long shirts and pants, Hat, and Water.  Bring a
willingness to enjoy nature and get a little dirty working on building a
new trail in Crystal Cove State Park. Future month’s events will focus
on restoring over ¼ acres of Coastal Sage Scrub environment. The Hike or
ride bike to event is 1.2 miles. Great way to enjoy nature and earn
community service hours. We look forward to seeing you.

  Directions

San Diego Freeway exit at MacArthur Blvd – proceed south about 3 miles
Left on San Joaquin Road – up hill
  Right on Newport Coast Dr.
Next Left on Ridge Park Road – up hill
Meeting place is at the end of Ridge Park Road at Cul-de-Sac
